• Participates in daily Tailgate Safety meetings and specialized trainings related to Caltrans’ regulations.
• Familiar with Chapter 7 & 8 Caltrans Safety Protocols.
• Remove litter and debris from highways and freeways, set up traffic controls, clean drains, repair and replace signs and other traffic safety devices, remove brush.
• Work as a Spotter, ensuring the safety of the crew and monitoring traffic conditions to anticipate potential dangers.
• Alert crew using a radio, air horns and other means to get them to safety, if needed.
• Clean and service equipment, load and unload material from trucks/trailers, clean and maintain grounds.
• Work with crews in landscape maintenance activities such as trimming vegetations, edges, and plants in landscaped areas determined by the supervisor or lead worker.
• Remove weeds, overgrowth and performed brush abatement from highway right of way and other public use areas, “Park & Rides”, etc.
• Exposed to blown dust, exhaust fumes, uneven surfaces, extremes of heat and cold, loud noises, chemicals, extreme weather conditions, moving vehicular traffic, stressful conditions, poison oak, irritating plants, insects and animals.
